For details please call 559-7000.

Director's Note:

Although Sports Camp fees remain at 2005 - 2007 levels, there are some additional costs this summer for many participants.  On the plus side, however, the amenities at our new location are so much better than anything we have been able to offer our patrons in previous summers that we feelcompletelyconfident that you will be getting some real value for the additional expense.

We sincerely hope that you children will enjoy:

  • Cerrito Vista Park's expansive grass field with several baseball diamonds
  • Two modern play structures which flank our canopied home camp area
  • Tennis Courts
  • Swimming option on Tuesday (added for weeks 8-10) and Thursday
  • Basketball at the Portola Middle School gymnasium (ages 6 and up)
  • Indoor WC facilities Wishing a great summer to all!  - Norm Friedman, Director

6Activity Schedule:

Our experienced staff provides a a non-stressful environment where the children may learn and develop both athletic and social skills while participating in preferred activities.

What our participants do and when they choose to do it are generally self-determined within certain common sense parameters.

This summer, the only specific times that we have established are:

Basketball:  1:00-3:00 pm at the Portola Gymnasium or outdoor courts.

Swimming:   Tuesdays (added for weeks 8-10) and Thursdays.

Optional; $3.00 fee applies per swim date.

7.  Age Groups:

Our 4-5 year olds always receive the most attention for obvious reasons.   We try to maintain continuity by keeping the same counselor(s) with the

4-5 year olds every day, thus fostering better chemistry as the week progresses.

For older children, several flexible groups are generally made with consideration given to chronological age, ability, social development and individual preferences.

Safety considerations are paramount in determining age groups and the appropriatness of a given activity for each child.

8.  Activities:

Up-tempo choices: Soccer, *Basketball, *Swimming,

Baseball,Tee-Ball, Whiffle Ball, Tennis, Capture the Flag,

Kick Ball, and Touch Football.

Other activities: Jump Rope, Hula Hooping, Frisbee tossing, Volleyball, Obstacle courses,  Giant Ring Toss (invented by Norm about 7 years ago),  Wet Spongey-thing tossing on hot days, 4- Square & other playground games, and an occasional Treasure hunt.

Down-time options : Chess, Checkers, Connect Four & other board and table games.  We also provide a nice selection of how-to Cartooning books.  (Resident artist, Joel, will teach a few things).  Art projects, and some miscellaneous entertainments round out the week.

Activities for ages 4-6 (and sometimes older):  Possibilities suited to this age group include things like Duck-Duck-Goose, Giant-bubble blowing, and Story-telling.

*For ages 4-6 we will have a portable basket at Cerrito Vista Park; ages 7-12 will be able to play Basketball this summer at Portola JHS (indoor and outdoor courts) adjacent to Cerrito Vista Park!

*Swimming will be made available as an option on Thursdays.

           * Update - Tuesday has been added for weeks 8-10.

9.  What to bring:

We recommend bringing a day-pack w/ lunch and snacks, a water bottle,

sun screen, a light jacket or sweater, a baseball-type cap or sun hat,

a baseball glove, and appropriate footwear.  If your child is going to the pool on Thursday, don't forget a bathing suit and towel.

Note:  Please, do not send your child to camp with nothing but sandals or water shoes!  Sneakers are recommended, and a change of footwear and socks is also a good idea

10.  What we provide:

We have all the necessary sports and game equipment.  We will provide sun screen if a child does not have his or her own on a given day.

Throughout the day fresh fruit will be made available.   Children wanting a snack will be able to have something whenever the need arises.

Oranges and Fuji apples are mainstays.   Watermelons will show up from time to time
